Die Idee, dass syntaktische Funktionen durch Entitäten unterschiedlicher Modalität, beispielsweise auditiv oder visuell, realisiert werden können, ist nicht neu und tritt ansatzweise schon bei Linguisten und Semiotikern wie Bühler (1934), Hjelmslev (1943) und Pike (1967) auf. Trotzdem haben deskriptive Untersuchungen in der Linguistik nach wie vor fast ausschließlich die Lautsprache und den auditiven Kanal zum Gegenstand. Wie sind syntaktische Beziehungen zwischen Rede und begleitender Gestik beschaffen? Diese Frage scheint in der Gestenforschung bisher ebenfalls keine Beachtung gefunden zu haben. In meinem Vortrag gebe ich Argumente und Beispiele (work in progress), die die These unterstützen, dass mit Hilfe der attributiven Funktion Gesten in lautsprachliche Nominalgruppen grammatisch integriert werden.

The idea that syntactic functions can be instantiated by entities of different modalities, e.g. visual or auditory, is not new and can be traced back to linguists and semioticians such as Bühler (1934), Hjelmslev (1943), and Pike (1967). Nevertheless, most descriptive studies in linguistics so far are based on vocal speech and its auditory channel alone. What is the syntactic relationship between speech and co-speech gestures? This question has been also neglected in gesture studies. In my talk, I will present work in progress which supports the idea that the attributive function allows the grammatical integration of co-speech gestures into verbal nominal phrases.
