Eine Einführung in die Gestenanalyse mit ELAN | An introduction to the analysis of co-speech gestures using ELAN

In erster Linie als technologisch robuste Grundlage speziell zur Analyse von
Sprache, Gebärdensprache und Gestik entwickelt, erfährt das am Max
Planck Institut in Nijmegen entwickelte Annotationsprogramm ELAN (Eudico Linguistic
Annotator) im Bereich der Analyse multimedialer Aufnahmen immer größeren
Zuspruch. Ziel des Vortrages wird es sein, eine Einführung in das Programm
zu geben, die es ermöglicht eigene Annotationen zu erstellen. Anhand von
Beispielen sollen zunächst grundlegende Eigenschaften des Programms dargestellt
werden. Anschließend folgt eine Vorstellung der Annotation redebegleitender
Gesten auf Grundlage der 4 Darstellungsparameter Handform, Position, Orientierung
und Bewegung. Die für eine solche formale Beschreibung redebegleitender
Gesten notwendigen Schritte werden nacheinander dargestellt und diskutiert.
Ebenso werden mögliche Alternativen der Weiterverarbeitung der erstellten
Annotationen vorgestellt, sowie Vor- und Nachteile des Programms diskutiert.
An introduction to the analysis of co-speech gestures using ELAN
With the aim to provide a sound and technological basis for the analysis of
language, sign language and gesture, the annotation program ELAN (Eudico Linguistic
Annotator) which was developed at the at the Max Planck Institute in Nijmegen,
receives growing interest in the area of multimedia research. The talk will
give an introduction to ELAN and will thus provide a basis for creating autonomous
annotations. Basic characteristics of the program will be represented by means
of various examples. Afterwards, the talk will give an introduction to the annotation
of co-speech gestures on the basis of the four parameters of representation
hand form, position, orientation and movement. Necessary steps for a formal
analysis of co-speech gestures will be represented and discussed one after the
other. Also, possibilities of further use of the annotations will be presented
as well as advantages and disadvantages of the program.
